Base 51 is a drop-in and
support resource for young people in the centre of Nottingham. It
has many homeless young people among its clients and offers them
medical, legal, nutritional and other forms of support.
Several of these young people
worked with Workshop Leader Jayne Lewis over a number of weeks to
produce a performance, entitled 'Slice of Life'. This hard-hitting but
refreshingly funny piece gave the actors the chance to open up about
their lives and the prejudices which face them.
It was performed alongside other,
professional companies at the 'Emergency' showcase at the Y Theatre in
Leicester. Its cast received a great reception- and a significant boost
to their self-esteem.

"It was an
experience I am so glad I did not miss. The pride and self-confidence on
the young peoples' faces after the performance was illuminating. The
performance itself was interesting, fun, informative and shared an
important message."
