Creative Partnerships

"There is a way of communicating with children which can seem patronising... but I’ve never seen Speakeasy doing that... It’s the Speakeasy way. They just get it. They understand how to speak to children."

Lead Teacher for Creativity, St. Barnabas School

Speakeasy's Creative Partnerships work

Speakeasy have been involved with the Creative Partnerships programme since it first began in Leicester in 2005, becoming one of 19 Principal Partners to work alongside a school, in our case Eyres Monsell Primary, for a period of 3 academic years. This highly successful period not only resulted in an excellent working relationship with Eyres Monsell Primary, one which is still in place today, but also resulted in a number of projects developed alongside the school becoming standalone pieces of work, Lady Catherine's Emerald, The Pyramid of Ra, Into the Rainforest, and most notably Grandpa's Garden, a week-long installation based project which went on to visit four other Leicester City schools, and was used as the backdrop for a national conference exploring the link between Creative Partnerships and SEAL (the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning).

Building on this success, Speakeasy have gone on to forge further and stronger links with the CP movement, both through our Artistic Director's involvement as a Creative Agent with Creative Partnerships in Coventry and Leicester, but also through Speakeasy building new relationships with schools in Leicester, Leicestershire, Derby and Coventry, and continuing to develop and maintain their reputation as one of the leading practitioners of drama based education projects in the East Midlands.

Speakeasy's thirteen years experience of working in schools has helped them to produce work in primary, secondary and non-mainstream educational settings, broaching topics as wide ranged as literacy based, character-led creative writing projects, multi-sensory drama activities for children with an autistic spectrum disorder, and whole school installations, transforming the school environment with curriculum linked activities and problems.

"The overall project was excellent and very stimulating... It was fantastic... The children have managed to develop creative thinking, using their imagination as well as some of them developing their writing skills"
